What do we stand for?

Our activities

Our association organises an annual public Irúnmolè festival in Wachtberg/Germany where we pray for progress, protection and peace for the individual, the city and the world. The festival is accompanied by an Egungun (representative of ancestors) and involves rituals for Osun (representative of rivers and women) and Sango (representative of governments and power) Our other activities to date include: Exhibitions, lectures, workshops , group worhip (Itadogun), supporting the preservation of old and new temple buildings in Nigeria as well as the preservation of the Osun Osogbo Sacred Grove (World Heritage Site) in Osogbo/Nigeria

Our activities contribute to keeping this rich culture alive and spreading it. We are also exchanging ideas with representatives of other indigenous religions and people wordwide.

Who we are

We are the non-profit organisation "Friends of Yórùbá Culture e.V." based in Wachtberg near Bonn/Germany and established in Münster/Germany in 1997. In 1998 we founded the IYA DuDu Centre for Yoruba Art & Culture in Münster.  Our aim is to promote the Yoruba culture in all its facets: art, language, religion, music, dance, etc. for the common good. Therefore we are using several forms of communication like workshops, seminars, lectures, festivals,  exhibitions, performances etc. The indigenous Yórùbá religion originates from Nigeria and is also practised in other countries of West Africa as well as in Trinidad and Tobago, North and South America, Mexico, Brazil as Candomblé and in Cuba as Santería. There are also several followers of this religion in Europe, Germany and the UK e.g.

Indigenous Yoruba religion

The aim of the indigenous Yoruba religion is for each individual and the group to make their contribution to the good development of society and humanity as well as to the protection of the natural foundations of life. Individually, the religion helps each individual to realise their potential and tasks in their lives and supports them in fulfilling them. The body of knowledge of the religion is contained in the Ifa literary corpus which is at the same time the base for the Ifa divination system which was inscribed in the Unesco list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008.
Every new year Baba Olosun is making a divination for the World.

Baba Olosun

Chairman of our association is Prince Dr h.c. Babalawo Adigun Olosun, born in Osogbo, Nigeria . He is a High Priest of the indigenous Yórùbá religion. He was born into it and has continued to train in it ever since. His father was the spiritual teacher of Susanne Wenger. Among other things, he is the leading priest (Baba Olosun) of the annual Òsunfestival in Osogbo/Nigeria, which attracts more than 120,000 international guests of all religions every year. Òsun is a servant of God (Irúnmolè) who is responsible for all matters and rights of women and she is living inside rivers. The state of Òsun in Nigeria and the river Òsun is named after her.
